David Maraga is a Kenyan lawyer, jurist, and politician born on 12 January 1951 in South Nyanza District, widely respected for his distinguished judicial career and commitment to the rule of law. He studied law at the University of Nairobi and served in various judicial roles, beginning as a Resident Magistrate in 1987 and rising through Principal Magistrate, Senior Resident Magistrate, and Judge of the High Court (2003), before his appointment to the Court of Appeal in 2012. He served as Chief Justice and President of the Supreme Court of Kenya from 2016 to 2021, notably leading the Supreme Court's landmark 2017 ruling that annulled the presidential election results. He is married to Yucabeth Nyaboke, with a daughter, Vashti Kemuma, and is associated with the United Green Movement party.
